A 10-YEAR-OLD boy who was brutally bashed on his way home from school has been transported to the magical world of Harry Potter thanks to a generous business.
Dominic Alderson was given a new Harry Potter-themed dresser and side table after Sunshine Coast business, Crafted Finishes, answered his mother's Facebook post to help with a bedroom makeover.
In 2018, the Harry Potter lover was pushed off his bike, picked up and smashed into the cement head first in a vicious attack that shocked the Coast and made front page news of the Daily.
Yesterday, Dominic said the present made for "the best Christmas ever".
"Mum told me it was going to be Harry Potter-themed, but I didn't know it was going to be that impressive, I was super impressed they even got me wands and they gave me potions like dragon scales," he said.
"On a scale from one to 10, I was 10 billion times excited."
Dominic's mother Kylie Alderson said she was so grateful to see a smile back on Dominic's face.
"He hasn't recovered from the attack, he has been in hospital a few times, he suffers from anxiety and he has had trouble staying at school, so it's been a tough year," she said.
"I just thought a mum would slap some paint on it (dresser and bedside table) and make it look like Harry Potter drawers, but I was not expecting them to turn out like they have.
"I couldn't thank Crafted Finishes enough, they have just gone above and beyond and I'm so grateful to see that smile on Dom's face it's priceless."
Owner of Crafted Finishes Kevin Pindelski delivered the dresser and drawers on Christmas Eve and said 'you couldn't put a price' on Dominic's reaction.
"It was awesome - it made the whole thing worthwhile," he said.
The Bli Bli man said the project took roughly three weeks to paint and a couple more to design.
"We opened up a group chat for our team, threw all the inspiration photos in there and everyone bounced ideas of each other, it wasn't one person running the project it was everyone doing their bit and leaving their mark," he said.
"We could just go nuts, we were doing it for a good cause, and we went all out."
Crafted Finishes employee Tate Aarons-Dunn said there was no stopping the team once they were told about Dominic's hardships.
"We had so much fun doing it and the group chat was on fire," he said.
"A lot of the guys ended up coming over to Kevin's and working on them off the books, everyone was there and in their spare time people were making wands."
Mr Pindelski said it had been a community-wide effort.
"From the donations of old suitcases, to the paint donated by PaintRight Sunshine Coast to the amazing efforts by Emma from Smart Artists with her laser printer and design talent, and the finishing touches by Chris from Munt Designs and the whole Crafted Finishes Team," he said.
