Gold Coast racing trainer Adam Campton is continuing to flourish in South East Queensland, producing a string of top-shelf performances with his growing stable.

In 2022/23, Campton’s first full season as a trainer, he finished with 34 wins and 46 placings from his 183 starts.

Since the start of the 2023/24 season, and as of December 12, the 35-year-old has had 22 wins and 36 placings from 128 starts and is striking at a whopping 34.8 win and 69.9 place percentage at the Gold Coast.

After launching his stable in September 2021 Campton had just two horses on his books but that number has quickly risen to more than 110 runners.

“Although I’ve only been training for two years it’s been a long process, especially when I was over in Hong Kong and had aspirations of coming home to train,” he said.

“Things have grown very quickly but I’ve got great staff, great owners, an amazing partner and they’re all big reasons for our early success and quick rise within those two years.”

Campton, who is the son of multiple group one winning jockey and successful trainer Neil, said he was eager to see what his stable’s leading runner Deepour could produce in the coming weeks.

The six-year-old has been without clear running room in his last two starts in the Swiss Ace Plate and George Moore Stakes.

“I would’ve liked him to have a better run last start because with a bit more clear room we were looking at the Lough Neagh this weekend but he’ll go towards the Falvelon in two weeks time,” he said.

“We’ll see how he pulls up from that as there’s a chance he backs up and runs in The Buffering the week after as he’s backed up before and handled it well in Sydney.

“That’s one plan, otherwise there is a race in Sydney a few weeks later but the main thing set in concrete right now is his next run on December 23.”

Campton said he was also eager to see further improvement from Navas Two who made his stable debut at Ipswich, finishing third on December six.

“He (Navas Two) was a really serious horse in Hong Kong with form behind Lucky Sweynesse who just added another Group 1 to his mantle piece earlier in the week,” he said.

“He’s a really nice horse, I think his first up effort was awesome and I think he could be a similar horse to what Deepour has done for us.”
