A Little Mountain man’s string of offending including an attack of a police officer has landed him behind bars until 2024.

George David, 33, was given a 3.5-year driving disqualification and 12 months’ prison, to be eligible for parole on August 14, 2024.

Court documents stated David’s friend got into a physical struggle with a police officer on March 30, 2022 at Caloundra where he pulled the officer along the road by his helmet.

The friend enlisted the help of David who kicked the officer in the thigh, causing pain and bruising, before both men drove off through a red light.

According to court documents, David’s next offending occured on April 10 when he approached the owner of a Mitsubishi Lancer with another man.

“One of the male persons has pointed a black object at the victim which he believed to be a black pistol and has told him to get out of the vehicle and lay on the ground,” court documents state.

The victim complied and the two men stole his car.

David broke into a Sunshine Beach unit the next day and stole a bank card which he later used to buy food and fuel.

Police found David hiding in a cupboard at a Mooloolaba address on April 16 when he was arrested.

David was also charged for crashing his car into a fence on March 25 when he was under the influence of drugs.

He pleaded guilty to seven offences in Maroochydore Magistrates Court including serious assault of a police officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, two counts of fraud and driving suspended.

David’s defence solicitor Patrick Meehan said his client didn’t understand what was happening in the struggle between his friend and the police officer.

“He acted very emotionally ... he regrets his conduct,” Mr Meehan said.

Mr Meehan said his client hadn’t received much support in custody for his drug habit but was looking at engaging in programs.
