A former AFL star has joined forces with two wellness gurus to bring a health hub to the heart of the Sunshine Coast.

Former North Melbourne dual premiership AFL player and 1996 AFL Players Association MVP Corey McKernan has unveiled his plans to open The Reset Sanctuary at 90 Aerodrome Rd, Maroochydore.

The new mind and body lifestyle centre is spearheaded by Mr McKernan, fitness and wellness practitioner Shane Nettleton and Health Junkee founder Natalie Jacobson.

The Reset Sanctuary will be sprawled across 192sq m, offering various facilities and a relaxation space featuring a new Health Junkee branch.

Mr McKernan said he was excited to present “this unique type” of lifestyle centre to the Sunshine Coast.

“We’ll have the latest facilities including ice baths, both a traditional and an infrared sauna, compression boots, a relaxation space where members can grab a coffee or a smoothie while they unwind, as well as meditate and recharge between sessions,” he said.

Mr McKernan said he had an interest in the link between mind and body for peak performance since his playing days.

He has since adopted a daily ritual to sustain his mental and physical wellbeing including exercise, meditation, taking ice baths and hopping in the sauna.

“It’s these things, along with human connection which I know improves overall wellness is what I want to bring to The Reset Sanctuary so it becomes a true lifestyle centre,” he said.

The new centre was the “logical step forward” for Mr McKernan after his previous businesses including CM Ultimate Events and Reset Thrive as well as his current not-for-profit organisation Walk With Me.

He noted connecting with the soon-to-be manager Mr Nettleton and Ms Jacobson brought all the pieces together to help anyone on their wellness journey.

“My hope is that we create an authentic sense of community where people want to come and connect while they undertake the activities on offer,” Mr McKernan said.

“I’m particularly looking forward to bringing in our guest speakers who will not only pass on their knowledge to our members but also provide a forum for everyone to connect and feel engaged.”

Having built the business from scratch, close to a million dollars has been invest to provide an “incredible” venture for clients.

“It’s a big investment and not without risk but the feedback and membership sign up to date is beyond expectation and that augurs really well for our plans moving forward,” Mr McKernan said.

He and Mr Nettleton aimed to create a community where members have access to events and workshops run by leading health, wellness and nutrition speakers.

“We are creating a space which will enable individuals to live better, feel better and thrive at all stages of life,” Mr McKernan said.

“As we move on from Covid, we know that now, more than ever, people are seeking real connection so we want to encourage our members to connect with like-minded individuals who are all striving for the same goals,” he said.

Mr Nettleton noted the latest equipment will help members of all ages and abilities improve their physical and mental health, offering a “holistic approach to recovery”.

“I’ve been in the fitness and wellness industry for more than fifteen years and I have no doubt that there is absolute value in combining physical and mental wellness,” Mr Nettleton said.

Ms Jacobson said the vision for The Reset Sanctuary aligned with the Health Junkee’s business values, making them a “perfect match” to support anyone on their wellness journey.

She detailed the “key” for her was Mr McKernan’s desire to create a community where anyone can connect, learn from guest speakers and join workshops to restore their body and elevate their mind.

The new Health Junkee bar will offer protein shakes, smoothies, snacks, barista-made coffee, sports supplements and wellness products and healthy “grab-and-go” food with indoor and outdoor seating.

It is expected The Reset Sanctuary will open in early May.
