Face mask rules: Queensland Health reiterates it’s OK to take your mask off for a photo

Queensland Health says it is OK for people to take their mask off for photos, despite not having the exemption published on its website.

Masks may be mandatory in Queensland for now but those enjoying special social occasions can still snap a photo without having half their face covered.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk attended Sunday’s Caloundra Cup at Corbould Park and was spotted posing for photos.

She removed her mask for the photos and quickly placed it back on.

A Queensland Health spokesman said anyone having a photo did not need a mask.

Clarification was sought from the department as photos were not mentioned on a list of 18 exemptions published on its website.

“You can stand to have a photo and be close together,” the spokesman said.

“That risk is low.”

Ms Palaszczuk said on Monday that restrictions would ease from Friday.

From 6am on Friday, July 16:

■ Queenslanders will no longer have to wear masks outside their home

■ Masks will still be required at airports and on planes as per Federal Government rules

■ No visitor restrictions to hospitals and aged care facilities

■ Pubs, clubs and restaurants will be able to cater to three people per 4 sqm while dancing will be back at weddings and public venues

■ No gathering limits at homes, as long as a list is kept for when there is over 100 guests

■ The use of QR codes will remain mandatory in shops, venues and events as per Queensland’s Covid Safe framework
