Ex-cricketer Craig McDermott lodges plans with council for Kings Beach townhouses

A former Australian cricket player has revealed plans to build a luxury set of coastal townhouses on the Sunshine Coast, each stretching across five floors complete with rooftop spas, several bedrooms and media room.

A former Australian cricket player has revealed plans to build a luxury set of townhouses consisting of five floors in a coastal suburb on the Sunshine Coast.

URBN Town Planning have lodged plans with Sunshine Coast Council on behalf of 28 Veneer Pty Ltd to build a set of four units at 38 Verney Street, Kings Beach.

ASIC records show 38 Veneer Pty Ltd is owned by Craig McDermott, who formerly played cricket for Australia between 1984 and 1996, playing 71 tests and taking 291 wickets.

The plans show a set of four luxury townhouses- each occupying five storeys – on sloped, currently vacant land in a high-density residential zone at Kings Beach.

Application documents show the basement level has been reserved for three parking spaces and visitor parks, storage and a laundry area and the first level features multiple living areas, a kitchen and dining area.

Each unit will also come with a covered alfresco area and pool on ground level as well as an elevator and stairs for access between floors.

The second and third level are each occupied by two bedrooms, with the second floor also including a media room and the master bedroom on the third floor featuring an ensuite and deck.

The final floor is reserved for a rooftop balcony with raised spa.

The maximum height of the building would not exceed 15m with the zone permitting buildings up to 21m in height and the site has a total area of 809sq m with the slope falling down about 2-3m.

Documents stated coastal themes with a positive impact on the streetscape was interpreted into the contemporary design of the townhouses including a landscaping buffer made up of 6m matured plants.

The project will not be required to undergo public consultation.
