A business dedicated to building affordable homes on the Sunshine Coast has entered administration, less than a year after the highly respected director died.

The Sunshine Coast-based company, Eco Cottages Pty Ltd, entered administration on Tuesday, according to an Australia Securities and Investments Commission notice, appointing Tracy Knight as the administrator.

ASIC documents show Nathan Phipps took over the director role from well-respected Cooroy builder, Greg Phipps, in December 2023.

Eco Cottages was first registered as a business in 2007, according to the corporate regulator, operating from Pomona and Cooroy before eventually moving to Birtinya.

The move to place the company, which specialises in constructing sustainable modular homes, into administration comes after Greg passed away in 2023.

A social media post by Eco Cottages informed followers of Greg’s death from motor neurone disease late last year, describing the builder as a “humble man with an expansive vision”.

“Greg’s passion for cypress was powered by his love of community,” the tribute read.

“Like no other, Greg’s authentic, selfless drive for a regenerative future, affordable housing and encouraging cypress back into the construction industry in Australian.”

The social media post regarding Greg’s passing stated new management was being sought to continue operating the company and Greg’s legacy.

One of the company’s recent project proposals involved building 33 eco cottages for a social housing park on a 2.4ha block on Carpenters Rd in Cooroy.

Mr Phipps and Ms Knight have been contacted for comment on the company’s administration.
