The Australian Taxation Office is set to take a Sunshine Coast-based law firm to court later this week, in an attempt to have the company formally wound-up.

According to an Australian Securities and Investments Commission notice published on August 22, the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation has started winding up proceedings against the company, FMLaw Pty Ltd.

The ASIC notice stated the matter would be heard in the Brisbane Federal Court on Friday, August 30.

ASIC documents stated FMLaw, which traded as Fox Taylor Mildwaters, was solely directed by Sunshine Coast lawyer Scott David Taylor since it was established in 2014.

The documents listed the company as having operated from an address on Bulcock St, Caloundra.

It is understood Mr Taylor’s law firm was placed into receivership last year, with another law firm taking on FMLaw’s clients.

It is further understood this action was taken due to deficiencies in the company’s trust account as well as Mr Taylor failing to obtain a practising certificate due to a lack of information.

According to the Queensland Law Society’s website a solicitor in Queensland must hold a practising certificate issued by QLS in order to engage in legal practice.

Mr Taylor, who often appeared in the Sunshine Coast courts in a professional capacity, pleaded guilty to drug-driving charges in 2019 after he was busted behind the wheel with meth and marijuana in his system on two separate occasions.

Mr Taylor was disqualified for one and two months cumulative for each charge, and fined $300 total.
