Covid cases increase for Sunshine Coast and Noosa

The Sunshine Coast and Noosa region has recorded 240 new Covid cases on the same day as the strict new mask mandate is rolled out across Queensland.

2021: a year in review

The number of Sunshine Coast and Noosa residents testing positive for Covid-19 continues to rise with the region reporting 240 new cases.

The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service region has 1295 total Covid cases with 173 active and 132 fully recovered.

Queensland recorded 3587 new Covid cases with five people in intensive care, including two pregnant women.

There are now 16,688 active cases in Queensland.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday morning, chief health officer John Gerrard said the latest case numbers were smaller than expected. He warned there could still be a significant surge in cases over the next few days as more people come foreword for testing.

This comes after an updated mask mandate was rolled out across the State on Sunday, January 2.

Masks were now required to be worn indoors in all settings except in the family home and in workplaces where it is safe.

The rise of Covid cases can also be linked after one person who attended the Elements Festival seems to have been the source of dozens of Covid-19 infections which have spread throughout southeast Queensland.
