The life of Immanuel Lutheran College student Saxony Walker will be celebrated at a funeral service after she tragically died at the age of 15.

Hundreds are expected to attend her service at 3pm on Friday at Gregson and Weight in Buderim to honour the life of the 15-year-old following her death in a pool tragedy on November 6.

Due to Covid restrictions a cap of 200 attendees is in place, with Immanuel Lutheran College hosting any overflow from the service and showing the livestream.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics rushed to a home about 6.30pm on Saturday, November 6 to reports a teenager had fallen into a pool.

Saxony was sadly unable to be saved.

Tributes have flowed in the weeks since her passing as her school and sporting communities come to grips with her death.

The Maroochydore Swans Rugby Union Club came together on November 11 to share their fondest memories and reflect on who their late teammate was.

Swans under-15s girls team manager Cassy Cason paid tribute to Saxony on behalf of the squad and penned a heartfelt tribute which she sent to the Sunshine Coast Daily to publish.

“Saxony will always be known as one of the strongest girls on the field with her distinctive blue head gear and so much happiness beaming through her contagious smile,” Ms Cason wrote.

“She loved rugby and this was known through her commitment to training, playing and always listening to what the coaches were saying.

“Although she was a little quieter than some of her teammates, Saxony welcomed new players to the team and made them feel welcome and included them.

“Saxony just loved rugby. She would always be looking for the extras, trainings and games, any opportunity to learn more.”

The Walker family had moved to the Sunshine Coast in mid-2015 after selling their Rio Station farm in Longreach.

The 1200km lifestyle switch came after many years of hardship battling the droughts of the west. Saxony grew up in Longreach and was raised on the farm tending to some 3000 sheep, orphaned joeys and even a visit from the royal family.

The QAS spokeswoman said Saxony was believed to have suffered a medical episode.

A hospital spokeswoman said Saxony was transported to Brisbane Children’s Hospital afterwards.
