Family and friends have paid emotional tribute to a long time Sunshine Coast resident for her social nature and fighting spirit.

Dorothy Lorna Quantrell died on April 24, 2022 due to a renal disease aged 82.

She had been a Sunshine Coast local since the 1950s and was a member of many organisations including the Caloundra Indoor Bowls Club, the Queensland Country Women’s Association, the Caloundra United Football Club, RSL Care at the Bolton Clarke Centre and the Uniting Church.

Her son Stephen said when she wasn’t surrounded by family she was giving her time to various volunteer positions.

“She married John Henry Quantrell in 1959 and was the mother to six children Andrew, Jennifer, Diane, twins Karen and Geoffrey and myself Stephen where she lived in Mooloolah and then Caloundra,” he said.

“She had 11 grandchildren and eight grandchildren with another on the way.

“Her family was her life as she was extremely proud of everyone but she also volunteered for many hours and held various positions of responsibility including president, secretary, treasurer and canteen convener in those organisations.”

Mr Quantrell said she was a strong woman and credited her fighting spirit after successfully beating two bouts of cancer.

“The family remembers her as a down-to-earth, strong lady as she never complained,” he said.

“She touched many people due to her generosity and loved socialising,” he said.

“One thing I think of all the time is she could talk to anyone about anything and as the old saying goes ‘she could talk with a mouthful of marbles under water’.”

Mr Quantrell said she would be sorely missed.

“Mum was one in a million and will be missed by all that knew her, especially her family,” he said.

Many people have left their tributes to Mrs Quantrell on numerous Facebook posts.

“Condolences to your family and those who she shared her days and life with. May she rest in peace,” Lissa Ware commented.

“My sincere condolences to you and your family. Dorothy was a lovely lady and always willing to give a helping hand. God bless,” Monica Elliot said.

“She was always sewing and helping everyone, anyone in need. A true Spirit now free from pain. Sincere love to her family,” Lorraine Ellis commented.
