A Sunshine Coast man who kept much of his serious cancer battle to himself is being remembered for his love of life and humble and generous personality.

Adam ‘Adsy’ Martin died on May 1 at the age of 46, about three years after he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

His sister Sarah Jennings said the news came as a shock to most people given his efforts to play down his diagnosis.

Aside from raising money for cancer research for Dry July each year Ms Jennings said he kept much of his cancer battle to himself.

“He kept his diagnosis a big secret from a lot of people so it’s all pretty devastating for those who knew him,” Ms Jennings said.

“He didn't want to burden people or want pity even though it was very serious, he was always making sure people knew he was all right and telling everyone he was doing okay.

“It’s quite ironic because he was so humble and didn’t ever want the spotlight on him but now it’s all about him and his life.”

Mr Martin worked as an engineer and sprinkler fitter and was an avid supporter of the Richmond Tigers.

The father of two moved to Buderim in 2010 with wife Rima where they raised their youngest son.

Ms Jennings said he led an active lifestyle.

“He loved the ocean and the sun, and was sunshine to all of those around him,” she said.

“Such a funny, kind, selfless, hard working, genuine, adventurous, spontaneous, family man that simply loved life.”

Ms Jennings said he would be sorely missed.

“He loved life and loved people and he was just such an incredible person through his generosity towards everyone and anyone he met,” she said.

“He had such an open heart towards all people so it’s a big hole he’s leaving behind.”
