After giving her siblings and parents bandaids to patch up any injuries from a young age, Ms Arthur knew she was going to be nurse.

Ms Arthur said the things she would miss most in retirement were caring for her patients, being part of the hospital team and mentoring newly graduated nurses.

"It is beautiful to see the blossoming of young nurses starting out in their career, and personally understanding the rewards they will reap over the decades to come," Ms Arthur said.

"I will also miss my nursing colleagues very much and I think they deserve a medal for all that they do for our patients, our doctors and each other.

"When I worked my last couple of shifts, my colleagues were so lovely and considerate of my needs and ensured that I was able to spend as much time with my patients as possible which was my greatest wish."

The Buderim Private Hospital is owned by the Uniting Church and is the only not-for-profit provider of private hospital services on the Sunshine Coast.

Ms Arthur spent the past 12 years working at the Buderim Private Hospital and was now looking forward to travelling and spending more time with her family.

Buderim Private Hospital general manager Karen Clark said the hospital team couldn't be prouder of Ms Arthur's incredible achievements.

"Robyn embodies our values of compassion, respect and working together and her experience and leadership will be greatly missed by her colleagues," Ms Clark said.

"Robyn has cared for many thousands of people during her career and I'm sure the memories of caring for these patients and the positive difference she has made will bring her great comfort and joy for the rest of her life."
