Queensland Police have confirmed the tragic death of a young man who died after a serious truck rollover in the Sunshine Coast hinterland earlier this month.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed the 25-year-old died on February 9.
It comes after the man had been flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition after the crash on Blackall Range Rd, Woombye on Tuesday, February 1.
He was placed in the intensive care unit in the days following the crash.
The investigating officer said the man sustained significant head injuries after being trapped in the cabin of the vehicle for about half an hour.
The crash happened about 11am when the truck, towing a bobcat and excavator, rolled at a bend heading southeast towards Woombye.
Sunshine Coast Forensic Crash Unit officer-in-charge Evan Condon said the man had been trapped “in an awkward” position in the truck’s cabin for about half an hour.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the man was freed from the vehicle about 11.35am.
Sergeant Condon said police were awaiting the results of a mechanical inspection and brake tests, however, he said the truck was in working order.
“He was travelling towards Woombye in a southeast direction and it’s basically a series of curves, quite hilly and it appears the vehicle rolled on one of the corners and slid down the road before leaving the road,” Sergeant Condon said.
“He was carrying a bobcat and excavator.”
The man was flown by rescue helicopter about 1.30pm.
Blackall Range Rd, Woombye has a history of serious crashes.
In 2019. a 21-year-old Woombye man tragically died in hospital after injuries sustained in a crash on the same road.
It was also the scene of a nasty head-on crash which put a middle-aged man in hospital in 2020.
