A Currimundi woman claims she heard voices in her head when she allegedly stole a trolley full of clothes and headbutted a security guard so badly they required CPR, a court has been told.

Coco JB Joyce Bishop-Hewitt applied for bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 7, seven months after she was charged with robbery with actual violence and stealing in May this year.

It has previously been alleged Ms Bishop-Hewitt lashed out at a 39-year-old Sunshine Plaza security guard after she left Kmart with a trolley full of stolen clothes.

Ms Bishop-Hewitt allegedly headbutted the guard twice and the security guard walked a short distance after the argument, collapsed and stopped breathing, requiring CPR.

Ms Bishop-Hewitt has yet to enter a plea.

Defence lawyer Luke Bull applied for bail on his client’s behalf as Ms Bishop-Hewitt appeared via video in the court and a supporter sat in the back of the courtroom.

The court was told the matter was no longer suspended under the mental health act, and would progress to the higher court in up to five months.

Mr Bull said bail was refused due to the risk of reoffending during her first appearance on May 8, but Ms Bishop-Hewitt has since spent 214 days in pre-sentence custody and a psychiatric report had been completed.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan read out to the court she had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and she allegedly heard voices telling her “she had no clothes and she needed clothes”.

Ms Bishop-Hewitt is now regularly taking medication, the court heard.

Police prosecutor Amanda Brewer said Ms Bishop-Hewitt still posed a risk of committing more offences if she were to be released on bail but accepted she was at risk of spending too much time in pre-sentence custody.

Mr Callaghan granted Ms Bishop-Hewitt to be released on bail on the condition she agree to her supervising officer to gain information about her mental health treatment.
