Coast couple pampers pooches on new TV show

A Coast couple are thrilled after filming Rebel Wilson’s new highly anticipated TV show.

A SUNSHINE Coast couple are on top of the world after pawfectly pampering pooches on Rebel Wilson's upcoming television series Pooch Perfect.

The reality competition set to air on the Seven Network this month features 10 professional dog stylists competing in a series of themed challenges revealing transformations of beloved family pets.

Marcoola based Australian grooming champion Shayla Knipe and her partner Chris Phillips said the highly anticipated show was a challenge.

"It was so much harder than all my other grooming competitions. Normally we have met the dog we are doing, we have already bathed them, prepared them, their nails have been trimmed and we would be up until 1 o'clock in the morning preparing them for about three hours," Ms Knipe said.

"But in this competition, we had a time limit and we had to do everything in that time limit, so the pressure was high, and we had all different types of dogs that we had just met.

"It was really stressful to know that if we don't get this right we could be going home, and it could come down to the dog's personality."

Having very little grooming experience Mr Phillips said he was very nervous.

"We were looking at it like it was a huge disadvantage me being her partner," he said

"They would ask what our disadvantage was, and we would say, 'me'."

Despite being stressful, Mr Phillips said Rebel Wilson made the long days of grooming enjoyable.

"She was amazing. She was so fun. It was such a hot time when we were there, but Rebel would go out and order eskies full of ice-cream," he said.

"I actually got along with Rebel really well and she is exactly like what she is on the TV shows. She is just a true-blue dag and is really done to earth."

The show features weird and wacky grooming styles, some taking inspiration from lions and tigers, but Ms Knipe who won her Australian title halfway through filming said she hoped it encouraged pet owners to be creative.

"A lot of people will see the ads and say, 'oh they are ridiculous trims, what are they doing' but there are some really cute trims that we hope are going to inspire pet owners to do something different. It's not just about shaving hair really short," she said.

"And everything about the show was done for the dogs. You would have stops where they would give the dogs water, they had professional horse trainers and animal handlers there to make sure the dogs were comfortable and they had airconditioned rooms for the dogs when they weren't on camera."
