Byron Haddow: Conversation between family and trio member revealed
A member of the trio present when FIFO worker Byron Haddow died in Bali has spoken to his Noosa mother for the first time.
A Noosa FIFO worker’s mum has shared details of the first conversation between herself and a member of the trio present when their son mysteriously died in Bali.
FIFO worker Byron Haddow, 23, tragically died just a few days into what was meant to be a 12-day holiday.
His family then embarked on a lengthy process to bring him home for his funeral, only to discover just days beforehand his body had been sent back home missing his heart.
A 60 Minutes segment that aired on November 30 revealed never before seen CCTV footage of the events leading up to Byron’s death, which sparked one of the members to reach out to Byron’s mother, Chantal Haddow, the next morning.
The three people who were present at the time of Byron’s death was an acquaintance of Byron’s from Melbourne, and the other two women had met Byron in Legian during the holiday.
The CCTV footage revealed the reactions of the three other Australians who were present at the villa when they realised Byron was dead.
A splash can be heard about 9.30am on May 26.
Ms Haddow said the member of the trio “was very upset and traumatised” during the phone call.
“I reassured [the person] many times how grateful I was that [they] had reached out to me,” Ms Haddow said.
However, Ms Haddow said following the conversation with the member said she still has unanswered questions.
“They said they were upstairs so didn’t see what or how it happened,” Ms Haddow said.
“So I’m no wiser as to how and what happened.”
She said there was still so much mystery regarding her son’s death after viewing the CCTV footage.
“There’s so many more unanswered questions even as to what happened after in that villa once the ambulances arrived and the duration from when Byron was taken away,” Ms Haddow said.
