The owner behind a popular Sunshine Coast doughnut company has pulled a U-turn on a recent call to close after receiving “insane” support, with one customer buying 20 doughnuts at once to freeze and hoard.

Mother-of-two Vanessa O’Neill announced three weeks ago she would close her doughnut store Dough Ho in Buderim on February 18, but has since backflipped and revealed she will stay open.

“We’ll give it one last crack,” she said

Steakhouse Hog‘s Breath Cafe Mooloolaba closes after 30 years

Ms O’Neill opened The White Oak cafe in Buderim three years ago before rebranding it to Dough Ho in March, 2020 and opening a second venue in Mooloolaba late last year.

While she has already closed her Mooloolaba store, she will now continue to operate her flagship venuet.

“No one wanted to see us go,” she said.

Ms O’Neill said she has been selling out of stock every day, sold 1200 doughnuts and 300 cookies by 9am one day, and had someone buy 20 doughnuts to later freeze, thinking it was their last chance.

With sales going “crazy”, Ms O’Neill said she wanted to keep her store but as a slimmer operation - open four days a week, not every day.

She said closing or selling could still be an option if sales dipped again.

Ms O’Neill previously said she would close because she struggled to turn a profit amid rising costs, and wanted more time for family and to process a recent health diagnosis.

She hoped reducing her trading days would help address some of those concerns.
