A new Greek-style brewpub has opened on the Sunshine Coast with the brains behind it harbouring dreams to rapidly grow into a giant food chain similar to Guzman y Gomez.

Tziki Bar along Mons Rd, Forest Glen opened its 550sq m, 200-seat venue on Wednesday after pouring $150,000 in to create its retro, street-style space, featuring a cocktail bar, 150sq m beer garden, and a mural of Poseidon.

Tziki Bar co-founder Adrian Chrisanthou, 42, said he wanted his new venue to be the first of “plenty” more in the region in the next three years and, ideally, follow in the footsteps of a food chain such as Guzman y Gomez

“This is the first of the big vision,” he said.

The Chevallum resident, co-owning it alongside Craig and Rebecca Hall, said he had a strong brand to replicate, having invested in merchandise and an affordable menu all with a Greek twist, from pizzas to desserts.

He said the dine-in and takeaway-designed brewpub, which was inspired by his Greek heritage, will also offer three of its own branded beers, starting with a premium lager, 3.5 per cent pale ale, and, soon, a Greek-style lager.

Mr Chrisanthou, also owner of Green Zebra Restaurant and Bar on Kawana Island, said he bought the 30-staff venue from Glass House Brewery, which operated the space as a restaurant from 2018 until September this year.

He said he transformed the existing restaurant by reconditioning its furniture, adding new lighting, and creating its cocktail bar with 15 signature drinks.

“We’ve just given it a life,” he said.

Mr Chrisanthou said he was used to breathing new life into existing venues, saying he had previously restored five other venues.

Glass House Brewery co founder Simon Michelangeli said he decided to sell his brewery’s restaurant arm to focus on brewing and to partner with a savvy businessman, Mr Chrisanthou.

“Partnering with Tziki will enable us to grow the business better than what we could do by ourselves,” he said.

Mr Michelangeli said his team would be brewing the new brewpub’s beer with the help of a Green Beacon Brewing former lead brewer.
