A Melbourne husband and wife hospitality duo are behind plans for a new bar at a top location along the Mooloolaba Esplanade.
A development application to open a bar was submitted to Sunshine Coast Council in September for approval by Project Urban on behalf of Wat Den Bar Pty Ltd, co-owned by Dean and Jeanelle Mariani and another business partner, Felipe Bley.
The husband and wife duo already operate a successful African-themed bar, Polepole and Glamp, in Melbourne’s popular Collins St precinct.
While the African theme won’t be replicated on the Sunshine Coast, Mr Mariani said he wanted to open a “specialist bar” to “focus on a couple of spirits” at Mooloolaba.
“There’s nothing up here that will feature what we’re going to do,” Mr Mariani said.
“The esplanade has so many good features about it and there’s a new energy.
“We’re hoping to be a part of the new generation.”
The latest Sunshine Coast bar with a would open on the ground floor of the Oceans Mooloolaba resort complex at 105 Mooloolaba Esplanade, next to Gloria Jeans cafe.
The licensed bar would have capacity for 60 people and offer food and entertainment.
The application proposed for the business to be open from 10am - midnight, Monday to Sunday.
The proposal includes designs for a 29.9 sqm lounge, 24 sqm dining area, 14.9 sqm bar with a total gross floor of about 70 sqm.
Parking will be available in the basement and amenities will be shared with other businesses along the esplanade.
The planning report says the bar would not impact other businesses and would reinforce the Mooloolaba Esplanade as a key tourist area, providing “vibrancy and vitality” to the area.
Mr Mariani said pending approval he hoped to open by the end of the year.
