Former nurse Bradley Chesham has combined frontline hospital experience with a love of video games to transform the way healthcare workers experience professional development and training.

Bundle of Rays is a Buderim-based business using immersive technology to teach and train nurses through a virtual and augmented reality platform.

Think learning about the heart by putting on a headset and stepping right inside one.

“You can stand up inside a heart, you can manipulate things and touch them to understand how they work,” Mr Chesham said.

“The motivation for developing the business was to empower health professionals to increase their skills and qualifications to make better decisions in patient care.

“We’ve gone beyond textbooks and PowerPoint to provide an education experience using virtual and augmented reality to create a scalable learning platform health professionals can rely on and enjoy.”

Right now, Bundle of Rays have education and training available for nurses, but the business is expanding into many other specialties across the health industry.

Mr Chesham moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2019 after a nursing career spanning London, Africa, Norway and battlefield nursing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The idea grew from my time in London, where a good friend ran an art gallery and I was first exposed to 3D models,” he said.

“We also used to play heaps of video games together.

“After I got back to Australia I was teaching at university and one day I bought some virtual- reality headsets into the classroom to teach some nursing students and they just loved it,”

Mr Chesham joined Sunshine Coast-based healthtech accelerator – Sunramp - which helped him to forge contacts to scale his business, put together an NDIS pilot program and develop a community of innovative healthcare masterminds.

“Our plan is to really shake the tree of e-learning for health professionals,” he said.

Bundle of Rays is building an advisory board for its expansion, with connections in Tel Aviv and Korea - all from its Buderim base.

“We’re a global business and we are firmly focused on opening up an interactive, approachable service for health organisations and training providers to improve patient care.”
