Preliminary fly-around of 10 Toes Brewery Buderim

A Sunshine Coast brewer has revealed what to expect from his second venue, worth more than $2m, ahead of its opening.

10 Toes Brewery owner Rupert Hall said his Buderim venue was on track to open early October at the former North Buderim IGA site.

Mr Hall said Gympie restaurant Bunker Smokehouse had leased the kitchen and would offer dine-in and takeaway at the 250-seat venue.

The new 10 Toes would have entertainment such as darts and Jenga as well as a private function room upstairs.

Mr Hall said his new venue will focus on producing seasonal batches, with a new flavoured brew every week.

“We’ve designed a brewery that will meet all our needs for 10 years time,” he said.

Mr Hall launched 10 Toes Brewery in 2016, with just himself and his wife running the Sugar Rd, Alexandra Headland venue for the first two years.

The production zone is also under construction, with Sunshine Coast Council approval expected to come through soon.

The former mechanical engineer of 20 years and Papua New Guinea gold mine project manager said he had been looking to expand for the past three years and found the Buderim site in October, 2022.

“It’s pretty humbling to see where we have gotten to, how strong 10 Toes’ roots are in the community,” he said.

“It just blows me away every time how the Sunshine Coast sees 10 Toes as a very mature brand that leads the craft industry.”

Mr Hall said he had an interest in opening a brewery 15 years before 10 Toes was born.

The surf, beach and barefoot vibe inspiring the brand’s name derived from Mr Hall’s hectic work days.

“I was running a pretty high strung life … (I would) get back home, flip my shoes off and immediately go for a walk on the beach,” he said.

“It was this complete contrast between my work life and getting back to the simple things in life.”

Mr Hall said the new Buderim brewery was the Sunshine Coast’s “best worst-kept secret”.

He said that during the development application phase with Sunshine Coast Council, the project received huge support with positive submissions.

The final piece of the puzzle was approval for production which he said was received last week.
