Buderim mum’s GoFundMe continues as she fights stage four bowel cancer

A popular Sunshine Coast makeup artist has revealed the extent of her cancer as she starts treatment and faces surgery later in the year.

A popular Buderim makeup artist has been forced to consider her end of life directive and will as she takes the next steps in her battle against bowel cancer.

Natalie Hunter, 43, said her stage four bowel cancer diagnosis still felt like a “weird” experience even after beginning chemotherapy in March.

“It still doesn’t feel real but I’ve surrendered now,” she said.

“I feel like I’m on a river now and floating down it.”

She said for a businesswoman like herself who was used to being organised up to a year in advance, having so much out of her control was a learning experience.

The single mum-of-two said her children were “great” with her son joking with her that she was an “eshay” because she wore a bum bag that held bottles of chemotherapy drugs administered through a tube for days at a time.

“We’re all just trying to find the light side of it all,” Ms Hunter said.

An eshay is a teenage boy who wears particular clothes often including a sports-branded or dark-coloured bum bag.

Ms Hunter and her daughter had taken to watching funny social media reels together to keep their spirits up.

The popular makeup artist said she had to let go of more than 40 weddings scheduled toward the end of the year.

“With weddings, I can’t ring them up on the day and say ‘I’m sick, I can’t come’,” Ms Hunter said.

She said it was “sobering” having to make legal appointments to consider her will and firm up an end of life directive.

“I like to be positive, but I’m also human and things cross your mind,” Ms Hunter said.

“I know I’ll be okay, but there’s a little bit fear of what could be on the other side of it.”

She faces liver surgery later in the year as the cancer has spread to that organ, along with more chemotherapy.

Ms Hunter said the outpouring of support from the community in donations to the GoFundMe her friend Christine Bevinetto started in March was generous and she was grateful.

The fundraising goal has increased to $30,000 as the treatment will take more time than first expected.

The money will go towards living expenses and bills as the single mum continues her treatment.
