Driver in hospital after Bruce Hwy crash near Nambour

A blown tyre is believed to have caused a serious crash that closed both lanes of the Bruce Hwy on the Sunshine Coast. Read the latest.

Both lanes of the Bruce Hwy southbound at the Sunshine Coast were closed for more than an hour after a serious single-vehicle crash.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near the Bli Bli Rd on-ramp at Nambour after the crash was reported around 5.50pm.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said both lanes of the highway were closed and reopened around 7.10pm.

She said it appeared a tyre had blown and the car crashed into a guardrail.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said a 21-year-old male driver was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said one crew was sent to the scene.

He said the person was not trapped in the vehicle.

It comes amid a horror week on the region’s roads with a two-year-old in an induced coma after a horror crash at the corner of Lamington Tce and Panorama Dr in Nambour on Wednesday night.
