Nambour crash leaves young boy fighting for life in Queensland Children’s Hospital

A toddler is in a coma after a horror single-car rollover on the Sunshine Coast, while police wait to find out if there was anything in the driver’s system. Read the latest.

A two-year-old boy remains stable but in a coma in a Brisbane hospital after a horror crash in Nambour on Wednesday night, while police wait to find out if there was anything in the driver’s system.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating after a single-car rollover at the corner of Lamington Tce and Panorama Dr about 6.30pm Wednesday, November 29, which left the young boy with life-threatening injuries.

He was flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition by the Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter.

Emergency services were called after reports a grey Mazda 3 had rolled.

A Queensland Children’s Hospital spokesman said the boy remained in a critical condition this morning, November 30.

It has since been confirmed he is in a stable condition in the intensive care unit, but remains in an induced coma.

Police confirmed to continue investigating the cause of the crash, they would need the blood test results from the driver.

She wasn’t breathalysed at the scene, but instead taken to hospital for her injuries where a blood sample was also taken – to test what was in her system at the time.

It is understood it can take up to six weeks for these results to be returned to police.

Shortly after the crash, police officers who were redirecting traffic were allegedly assaulted by two teenagers.

The boy and girl, both 16, were arrested and faced Children’s Court in Maroochydore on Thursday.

A 26-year-old Woombye woman was assisting police with their inquiries.

She suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Witnesses or anyone who saw the vehicle around Nambour before the crash have been urged to contact police.

LifeFlight operators reported the little boy has suffered multiple injuries and was first treated on scene by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics who made the call to get the boy flown to Brisbane.

He was rushed to the waiting chopper and flown to hospital with a LifeFlight Rescue critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic on board.

Firefighters also went to the crash and were not required to cut anyone out of the car.

There was no police tape or investigators on scene this morning, with all of the smashed glass and debris from the crash also cleaned up.

The adjourning streets had all been reopened overnight, with traffic continuing as per usual.

No neighbours were out and about, and the street was quiet following the horror smash.

It’s the latest in a horror week of Sunshine Coast crashes after a French tourist died in a Teewah Beach rollover on Sunday afternoon.
