Homes and businesses in several Sunshine Coast properties are set to be eligible for internet upgrades as NBN Co prepares to roll out improved services.
An extra 300,000 homes and businesses have been included in the fibre upgrade footprint.
Once built the new network would allow homes and businesses on fibre to the node technology to upgrade to fibre to the premises services which would deliver faster internet speeds.
Fisher MP Andrew Wallace welcomed the upgrades at a time when so many were reliant on technology to stay connected with their family and friends overseas and around the country during lockdowns.
“This investment by NBN Co in our region will provide a much-needed boost to economic activity and employment on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Wallace said.
“It will give small businesses access to ultrafast broadband allowing them to offer new and innovative products and services online and communicate better with their customers in Australia and overseas.”
NBN Co’s chief operating officer Kathrine Dyer said a small-scale pilot program would be launched in November before the wider roll out.
The Sunshine Coast suburbs earmarked for the next upgrades were:
Battery Hill
Bli Bli
Maroochydore
Sippy Downs
