A doctor yesterday told a court he removed nine shotgun pellets from a man's shoulder and arm after a drive by shooting in Nambour but 50 odd pellets remained embedded in his body.
The doctor testified at a committal hearing in Maroochydore Magistrates Court where Guy Anthony Ozanne was committed to stand trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of unlawful wounding.
Mr Ozanne, 23, was charged with possessing a Winchester shortened shotgun, discharging a weapon in a public place and possessing cannabis when he was charged in February this year. Those charges are set for mention in the magistrates court in January.
Mr Ozanne was allegedly inside a blue Nissan sedan when it drove past the Royal George Hotel on a Friday night at slow speed and allegedly fired a round towards the front door of the hotel.
Michael Adam McCoy, 28, told the court yesterday that he had exchanged words with the accused man earlier in the night.
He said he was later standing outside having a cigarette when he saw a car slow down, then heard a loud noise and realised he had been shot at.
Mr McCoy received superficial wounds.
Russell Andrew Muir, 41, told the court he did not recall speaking to the accused that night. But he sustained the most damage from the shotgun spray and still has 50 odd pellets inside his body.
A police detective testified that Mr Ozanne's DNA was found on a cigarette at the scene.
Mr Ozanne's lawyer consented to him being committed to Brisbane Supreme Court without the magistrate considering the evidence.
Mr Ozanne successfully applied for bail. He will be released once a $5000 surety, expected to be posted by his grandfather, is paid.
He will face trial on a date to be fixed.
