Undecided voters give their winner on second Steven Miles, David Crisafulli debate

One leader was more direct with his answers, while another relied on his “past record” too much, according to members of The Courier-Mail’s Voter Verdict.

Undecided voters say opposition leader David Crisafulli won the second leader’s debate with his “more direct answers” and his policy details.

It comes after many of the Courier-Mail’s exclusive Voter Verdict chosen by pollster YouGov said they were largely unimpressed with Mr Crisafulli in the first debate.

However, turning it around in the second debate, the undecided voters said Premier Steven Miles was relying on his past record too much despite the state of the economy being poor.

George Solakidis from Minyama said both leaders raised some good points but Mr Crisafulli definitely won for him.

“He seems more direct with his answers and his topics in relation to his policies,” Mr Solakidis said.

“I think that Steven Miles kept talking about the Labor Party’s past record that he will rely his reputation on.

“But personally looking at the state of the economy in Queensland, I don’t think he can hold your head on his past record or current record.”

Mr Solakidis said Mr Miles didn’t mention the topics he cared about such as infrastructure and lack of housing affordability.

“The topics he has mentioned are really short term sweeteners like 50 cent travel fares, now 1.4 billion dollars to feed kids at schools,” he said.

Gail McIntyre from the Sunshine Coast said she thought the debate was conducted well with both leaders courteous and respectful.

“David Crisafulli was very self-assured and confident, Steven Miles less so,” she said.

“David Crisafulli seemed genuine in his commitment to Queensland. He outlined his policies succinctly and explained his rationale.”

Ms McIntyre said she would like both leaders to elaborate on the costings of the projects.

“I’m really quite concerned that Steven Miles has said that Labor’s electoral promises are going to be funded by borrowings,” she said.

“Also, how the LNP will fund its promises without cuts.”

Stephen Muir said he believed Mr Miles won the debate.

“I just can’t get over this 100 day plan of Crisafulli, I can’t see how he thinks he is going to tackle youth crime all in 100 days,” he said.

“It’s not possible so to promise that it makes me think he is just clutching for straws and I believe he thinks he will slide in and win.

“And I don’t like that type of attitude.”
