Babies, dogs, filming social media content and a man wanting to remain Queensland premier – it’s finally starting to feel like an election campaign.
Premier Steven Miles on Tuesday morning wandered Bulimba’s trendy and up-market Oxford St, meeting Labor-friendly voters and stopping in on a cafe and three stores.
Although it was one of the rare times the premier has wandered through the public, Mr Miles’s campaign team were aware of who most of the people me met and businesses he entered were.
He attempted to fit into Bulimba’s activewear and caffeine culture by trying his hand at making a coffee – in business attire – before wandering next door to Riverbend Books.
Mr Miles purchased Irish author Sally Rooney’s Intermezzo – a New York Times’ bestseller which explores a story about two brothers’ lovers, grief and age-gap relationships.
Outside, Mr Miles met baby Lotte Pickett and her mother Madeline Burwin before he ducked into LoloPops Baby Gifts where he bought a plush teddy for $25 and handed it to Lotte – who screamed and burst into tears.
Concerning for Mr Miles, it indicates Queenslanders are happy to accept vote-buying measures and still be upset with Labor.
After working with babies, the premier continued to defy the old adage by moving onto an animal apparel store where two excited dogs – Alfie and Charlie – were waiting.
Notably more behaved than the frustrated babycino-drinking constituent outside, the premier finished his street walk all smiles.
Bulimba is held by Education and Youth Justice Minister Di Farmer on a 11.4 per cent two-party margin against the LNP.
While she is expected to hold the inner-city electorate, it remains on the Greens’ hit list.

Tuesday’s ballot draw was a mixed bag for the major parties, with Labor and the Greens well down the card in areas they are targeting.
