Labor is tracking towards a brutal defeat at the state election with the LNP poised to return to majority government for the first time in a decade.

Steven Miles’ Labor government will have to overcome the longest odds in the history of betting on a Queensland election if they are to retain power on October 26.

Betting agency Sportsbet is paying $11 for a Labor victory at the upcoming state election, with the LNP a $1.06 chance.

A betting agency insider told The Courier-Mail said Labor’s odds of winning were the longest seen in more than a decade of betting on elections.

“These are the longest odds, or disparity between two parties, in history for any Queensland election since betting on elections began,” they said.

Queenslanders are prohibited from betting on state elections, meaning interstate punters are backing the LNP to win government in October.

Both the Greens and Katter’s Australian Party are paying $101 to win.

Despite splashing billions in its cost of living relief campaign, the government is expected to fall victim to a nasty 8.2 per cent swing, and the LNP to emerge with a 55-seat victory.

It would mean the loss of 20 Labor seats, putting five ministers, including Bart Mellish, Nikki Boyd and Meaghan Scanlon, at risk.

Ms Scanlon, speaking in Brisbane on Saturday, said the party still believed it could garner support over the next month.

“Everyone I speak to knows about the cost of living, relief that our Labor government is delivering,” she said.

“I don’t think I’ve spoken to a single person who doesn’t know about 50 cent fares.”

But polling shows voters want a change, with 57 per cent saying it was “time to give someone else a go”.

Opposition Leader David Crisafulli has also won the confidence of 53 per cent of voters who said they had faith in his ability as the next Premier.

Just 29 per cent said Labor deserved to be re-elected.

Primary votes have remained steady for both major parties, Labor at 30 points and the LNPs 42.

Mr Miles’ popularity did rise three points, but he is still sitting heavily behind Mr Crisafulli as preferred premier, 39-46, with 15 per cent of voters remaining uncommitted.

Just over half of voters are dissatisfied with the Premier’s performance, compared to 49 per cent in March.

Ms Scanlon said Queenslanders knew what Mr Miles stood for.

“I think if David Crisafulli wants to be the premier, then Queenslanders need to know what is at risk,” she said.

Pressed on whether that meant voters were uneducated, Ms Scanlon responded with: “Oh no, I wouldn’t say that.”

Support for the Greens has dropped slightly since March, with the party now sitting at 12 points, while One Nation has maintained eight points.
