RENEGADE Labor MP Jo-Ann Miller says Annastacia Palaszczuk would not have won a majority government if she did not reach out to One Nation voters during the election.

In a post-election broadside delivered to Ms Palaszczuk, Ms Miller said she believed it was Labor that won more seats because of One Nation preferences, despite significant efforts from the Premier during the election tying the LNP to the resurgent right-wing party.

Now the Government’s most experienced MP after winning her seventh state election, Ms Miller holds one of the state’s safest seats.

“Labor wouldn’t be in a majority if it wasn’t for my call for people who were going to vote for One Nation first to give their second preference to Labor, which is what I did on many occasions during the campaign,” she said.

“I was the only Labor MP that actually went out and asked for that … That’s because I had experience (fighting elections against them) of them from early on.

“I think it coming from someone like me is pretty important as well ... We didn’t demonise them at all.”

Labor won the seats of Redlands, Mansfield, Mt Ommaney and Aspley from the LNP with the help of One Nation preferences, franking Ms Miller’s claim the party would not have secured a majority without their preferences.

“But you know my big thing was if you vote One Nation, please give your second preference to Labor and they did and it worked and we got a majority government,” she said.

“My words were: ‘would you please consider giving Labor your second preference’ and we would not be in the position we are today unless they did.”

Ms Miller infuriated many in the Labor Party after she happily hugged One Nation leader Pauline Hanson on the election hustings, throwing in jeopardy Ms Palaszczuk’s “clear choice” message, offering stability while her rivals brought nothing but “chaos”.

Ms Miller has also embarrassed her former Cabinet colleagues during the past two years of Budget estimates hearings with hard-hitting questions. She also chastised Labor over black lung disease and linked the State Government to that of Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s.

Ms Palaszczuk frequently criticised Ms Miller due to her attempting to juggle a minority government along with Ms Miller’s strong links to the powerful CFMEU, which gave more than $100,000 to the party during the election campaign.
