Winter has well and truly arrived on the Granite Belt with more rainfall, extreme winds, snow and subzero temperatures on the horizon.
A cold front that passed through Stanthorpe overnight resulted in 10-25mm of rain with experts predicting the temperatures to continue to plummet.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Pieter Claassen said there is a very “slight” chance of snow flurries around the peaks of the Queensland and New South Wales border on Wednesday evening.
Mr Claassen said snow is far more likely early on Thursday afternoon and into the evening in Stanthorpe, but admits “no snow will settle”.
“There is no chance of snow from late Thursday night onwards,” he said.
Thursday temperatures are expected to drop significantly with a low of -2C overnight and a top of just 6C forecast.
Mr Claassen said the region is in for some “very cold mornings” with temperatures from about 10pm on Wednesday and into Thursday to feel “well below zero degrees”.
“It will feel a bit cooler than it actually is, as its expected to get quite windy with winds reaching about 45km/h,” he said.
