From a pregnant woman who started using drugs at 16 to a former-postman who claimed he used drugs as a coping mechanism, there is a wide range of Granite Belt residents sentenced for drug offences this week.

Single mother of two Kelly Ann Frunks was found with a small marijuana plant, 0.5g marijuana in a bowl, a homemade bong and a grinder during a search warrant at her Applethorpe home on April 10 at 1.45pm.

The self-represented Frunks said she was embarrassed by her actions and offered “no excuse”.

“I need it for stress relief and that is the reason why I was smoking marijuana,” she said.

The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils or pipes.

She was fined $450 and no conviction was recorded.

Pregnant Stanthorpe mother Josephine Lampson was found with 0.5g of cannabis, a homemade bong, glass pipe and a set of scales on March 25.

Lawyer Clare Hine said her client had used marijuana since she was 16, and at the time she was arrested she was using it to cope with trauma.

Magistrate Julian Noud told Lampson her struggles with drugs are something she must “steer clear of with another child on the way”.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils or pipes.

Lampson was fined $350 and a conviction was recorded.

Former postman Kevin Duane Newcombe was found with 1.5g of marijuana and a brass pipe on March 28 at 10am in Wallangarra.

The self-represented Newcombe said it was ongoing stress that lead him to smoke marijuana and he said he had since given up.

Newcombe pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing pipes.

The 54-year-old was fined $150 and no conviction was recorded.

Police found 12g of marijuana under Matthew Paul Polzin’s driver seat during a routine RBT on May 1 at 12.45pm on Wallangarra Road.

The self-represented 39-year-old said he suffered from insomnia after being stabbed and used the drug to help him sleep.

The Stanthorpe man pleaded guilty to drug possession and was fined $250.

A conviction was recorded.

Michaela Leigh Gimm was found with a bong during a raid on an Archibald Street property in November.

The self-represented Gimm said she had forgotten all about the bong, having recently given birth and her partner was in an accident.

The 24-year-old said she used the bong previously to help her go to sleep.

Gimm pleaded guilty to possessing a pipe, was fined $100 and no conviction was recorded.

In Applethorpe on April 17 during a search warrant on Dakoda Indy Campbell’s home, police found two water pipes.

The 18-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing utensils or pipes.

Campbell was put on a good behaviour bond.

No conviction was recorded.
