Magistrate slams Stanthorpe drug culture as string of offenders front court

Stanthorpe magistrate Julian Noud has slammed the region’s drug culture, saying it is a “real problem in the community”. The denunciation comes as a string of offenders front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on drug charges.

Jacob Tydman pleaded guilty to the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected by drugs and possessing 3.39 grams of marijuana.

Tydman also pleaded guilty to driving an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle that is not in a safe condition, failing to comply with requirements after a crash and contravening a police direction.

The 19-year-old was placed on nine months probation and disqualified from driving for nine months.

No conviction was recorded.


Nineteen-year-old Damien Anthony East pleaded guilty to drug driving along Wallangarra Road on November 29.

The Glen Aplin resident was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for three months.

The court was told the incident was East’s second drug offence in as many months.

Shania Michelle Whalen pleaded guilty to possessing 1g of marijuana and a pipe.

The 22-year-old Stanthorpe resident was fined $200 and no conviction was recorded.
