A new takeaway shop opening its doors in Stanthorpe Centrepoint next week will give customers the opportunity to grab a bite of some homemade kebabs and burgers.
Poppie Rose’s Kebabs & Burgers at 17 Railway Street is set to welcome its first customers early on Monday morning, and new owners Tina Schubert and Maria Shipman couldn’t be more excited.
Ms Shipman said the shop would use all local produce and specialise in authentic kebabs, hot chips and old-time burgers, with a special family recipe from her parent’s milk bar in the 70s.
“There are no speciality kebab shops in town or even in the region so we thought it was a good opportunity to break into a new and uncharted area,” she said.
The friends said picking the shop name was relatively easy, wanting something that had a special significance, deciding to go with “Poppie Rose” after Mrs Schubert’s 4-year-old granddaughter Poppie-Rose Kelly.
“It’s a catchy little name with two flowers and it has meaning to Tina and her family,” Ms Shipman said.
Mrs Schubert said the friends wanted to open the shop to look after the workers of Stanthorpe instead of just the tourists, offering quality food and a quick and efficient service, with the primary goal to make customers happy.
“We want to feed the workers and provide them with a good takeaway spot they can go to on their lunch break, as it’s so busy on that main street and hard to get a parking spot so being up here at Centrepoint works well,” she said.
Poppie Rose’s Kebabs & Burgers is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.
