Snowflakes in Stanthorpe festival to reach subzero temperatures this weekend

Subzero temperatures are predicted this weekend according to the Bureau of Meteorology ahead of Stanthorpe’s premier winter festival this weekend, which will feature a few new additions. SEE WHAT’S NEW HERE.

Snow falls in southern Queensland

Pull out your turtlenecks, gloves and beanies; it’s that time of year when snow comes to life for the Snowflakes in Stanthorpe festival, and this year there’s a few new activities to enjoy.

President and event co-ordinator Trace Gosney said this year will feature two inflatable ninja climbing walls, two commando courses and more snow igloos.

“The Bushies Brekky on Sunday has already sold out,” Mr Gosney said.

“We’ve got just over 5500 tickets already pre-booked and we generally expect about another 2000 to be sold at the gate.”

With the event to kick-off Friday morning in town, the main stage will be set up in the piazza with stalls up and down High St, however this year no roads will be closed off for the first day of events.

Another new addition to this year’s festivities will be Stanthorpe Scouts Group’s toasted marshmallows, along with a new synthetic ice skating ring.

Saturday and Sunday are the days to head on out to the showgrounds with the family for a toboggan down the snowfields and a skate around the ice ring, with many other colourful events throughout the day and into the evening for all ages.
