WHAT a marvellous few weeks we've enjoyed at Applethorpe State School, with the addition of a wonderful new classroom teacher, interschool sporting competition success, the elections of our student leaders and subsequent visits from some very special guests a highlight for all.

Thanks to our growing student numbers, we were delighted to welcome Cynthia Collins to our school as our Year 1-3 teacher.

Mrs Collins brings with her a wealth of experience in primary education and her cheerful disposition makes for a perfect fit in our warm and welcoming school community.

With the interschool softball and cricket seasons coming to a close, we are proud to say our students all put in an excellent effort week in, week out, with some very impressive skills and sportsmanship on show throughout the competition.

Our 2019 student leader elections this term had our Year 6 students all confidently presenting impressive speeches in front of the whole school community.

After a school-wide vote, our school captains, sports captains and sporting house captains were presented with their leadership badges at a memorable induction ceremony attended by some very special guests, including Member for Southern Downs James Lister, Assistant Regional Director Graeme Lacey, Adopt-A-Cop's Sergeant Shane Gleeson and P&C president Ron McLean, along with many proud parents, staff and students.

We congratulate students Isabella and Cooper - our new school captains, Shelby and Emmanuel - our new sports captains, Anthony and Rufous - Leslie house captains, and Breanna and Rebecca - Marsh house captains, and wish them well in their areas of school responsibilities.
