STANTHORPE State High School has celebrated another successful visit from Stanthorpe's sister-city Shiwa. A group of nine students and three teachers visited for five days, enjoying the sights of our region, as well as experiencing home life and school life.
The Shiwa students prepared a fascinating presentation about Japanese homes and daily routines, which showcased not only their superb English skills, but also Japanese culture. The Stanthorpe High students thoroughly engaged with the presentation and had some thought-provoking questions.
During their stay, the Shiwa group experienced some classes, made Anzac biscuits, crafted and threw boomerangs, and toured the school and its farms. Also, a special visit to the Southern Downs Regional Council office allowed for a meet and greet with the mayor and councillors. The visit culminated in a visit to Donnelly's Castle for a bush walk and Sutton's café for some delicious local cuisine.
Thanks must go to the host families who welcomed the students into their homes, and to the school and local communities who accommodated the visitors.
Homework Club
Homework Club has re-commenced for 2019. Every Wednesday afternoon, students can undertake quiet study, assignment and homework in the Resource Centre (Library) from 3.15-4.15pm. Last Wednesday we had 38 students turn up and more than 10 teachers from various faculties ably assisted them.
Miss Adams co-ordinated the Year 11 Essential English students while Mr Knauth, Mr Pitt, Ms Lochner and other teachers, helped students with their speciality subjects.
