HOME-SCHOOLING is on the rise nationally and is a viable option in the South Burnett.
Mother of three Mrs Sarah Killpatrick left her work as a teacher to home-school her children.
"For over 30 years there have been families home schooling in the South Burnett,” Mrs Killpatrick said.
"With home-schooling you can really tailor your child's education to their learning interests. A lot of families just love this freedom to do what works for their child.
"Other reasons might include faith, if a child has special needs, or suits a very specific learning style.”
Mr Killpatrick was also home-schooled in the South Burnett.
"My husband loves to learn. He'll just sit down to research and look up something that interests him in his spare time,” Mrs Killpatrick said.
"Sometimes that love for learning can get lost. We really don't want that to happen with our family. I think in Australia home schooling has also become more popular because of bullying.
"It's nice to see it becoming a more viable option. Our children now have more home-schooling friends they can play with at our regular meet ups.”
Mrs Killpatrick organises weekly catch ups with other home-schooling families.
Once a month they catch up as the South Burnett home-schooling community.
