South Burnett Distillers boasted a silver award for their one of a kind Apinya gin upon returning to the region.

The grape-to-glass gin is inspired by tropical South East Asia and successfully competed against 2000 entries from 80 countries.

Clovely Estate distiller Nick Pesudovs said he spent the past two years putting his heart into crafting the spirits from scratch.

“At South Burnett Distillers we’re trying to do something different and this international accolade shows that we’re on the right path,” Mr Pesudovs said.

“For a fledgling distiller, 18 months from inception, to be recognised at this level is truly humbling and an acknowledgment of the massive effort we put in to design such a beautiful drink.

“One sip of the award-winning Apinya gin will transport you to the tropical beaches of Phuket, with aromatic botanicals including lemongrass and coconut, with a delicate fresh lime perfume and lingering juniper finish,” he said.

During a three day competition the gin was tasted by the UK’s top bartenders and spirits buyers while being assessed on quality, value and packaging.

Mr Pesudovs said the distilling of local wine into the spirit took extra time.

“Fermenting the finest grapes and distilling our own base spirit gives our gin range a softer, more textural edge not seen in other spirits,” Mr Pesudovs said.

“Receiving this award on the global stage will have an enormous impact on our industry and tourism, promoting Australia’s South Burnett region locally and to the world,” he said.

The Apinya gin is proving to be a bestseller for the Clovely Estates' Cellar Door, gin lovers around the state are encouraged to taste all four of their exotic flavours.
