South Burnett cleans up after spring storms
Homes in the South Burnett lost power, and roofs and cars were damaged when Tuesday’s spring storm dumped large amounts of hail and rain on parts of the South Burnett, and the BoM has warned that more severe storms are likely late on Wednesday.

The South Burnett was cleaning up on Wednesday after being hit by severe storms late on Tuesday that delivered torrential rain and golf-ball sized hail to parts of the region.
Nanango was was struck by large hail, and at least 45 Ergon Energy customers lost power as a result of damaged and fallen power lines. Power was expected to be back on by midday on Tuesday.
Nanango resident Natalie Willcocks-Hanson found hailstones the size of 20 cent coins.
“Some smaller branches are down, plenty of leaves etc to clean up, we lost power from around 6pm till 3.17am,” she said.
“Lucky no major damage and we all are safe.”
Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson Kimba Wong said Nanango received the most hail from the storm.
“The storm began in the evening and progressed inwards into the evening,” Ms Wong said.
“South of Kingaroy had 32mm of rain,” she said.
The Queensland Ambulance shared a snap of Nanango paramedics Kate and Paige creating a hail snowman outside of the station.
South Burnett residents took to Facebook to share their experiences after the storm had passed.
Nanango resident Mike Brown said his car was smashed with hail before he managed to move it undercover.
“Guess I have a dice black coloured golf ball dimpled car now,” he said.
South Burnett resident resident Danny Wust said his house was damaged significantly.
“Taking tomorrow off to do repairs,” he said.
Another resident Karen Hibble-Shephard shared that she called SES.
“Just logged with SES to help tarp our roof,” she said.
Queensland SES said they did nott receive a high volume of callouts, despite the hail.
“Between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday we only received three callouts from the region,” a spokeswoman said.
The Bureau has warned residents that more severe weather patterns are possible on Wednesday.
“Severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall will impact south-east Qld and north-east NSW.”
