KINGAROY RSPCA is full yet again after their sale 'cleared out' the South Burnett shelter.

Acting shelter manager Bonnie Heit said they filled up quickly because they act as the council pound.

"We are still an animal re-homing facility. We just also manage the South Burnett Regional Council pound," Ms Heit said.

"So even though we cleared all of our adoption pens we still had animals waiting in the council pound area who would inevitably be moved into the adoption pens.

"Those animals in the pound area stay there for three to five business days. If they are not claimed by their owners then we have them desexed, vaccinated, and checked on a Wednesday. This means we are always having more animals going up for adoption on a Thursday."

A majority of the animals in the council pound are never reclaimed by their original owners.

"Really we're always full. To the point where we will have to move animals to other RSPCA shelters where they might have a better chance of being adopted," Ms Heit said.

"We are always sending kittens who aren't adopted to the Bundaberg shelter. They're connected to a pet store and will find homes way faster that way.

"We can only do so much with what we have. And, we're always on the look out for more volunteers."
