South Burnett volunteers and Race Club members worked hard for the Nanango Races to go ahead, despite the wet weather.
The Race Club Secretary Lesley Eerger and PR representative Noel Trace spent their day keeping an eye out for attendees dressed up to the summery theme and giving out spot prizes.
"A lot of people turn up dressed beautifully....it's just that some don't have that confidence to get up on a catwalk,” Noel Trace said.
"Doing it this way, instead of as a cat-walk-parade, you get to converse with people. You find out where they're from, what they're doing, and what has brought them into the area. You get to find out a lot more about the community doing it this way,” Lesley Eerger said.
Noel Trace said the community needed an event like the first race meet.
"Without social events like this a lot of people who don't normally get out....they wouldn't go out....then they would just stay at home,” Noel Trace said.
"Whereas here there's a lot of things they can do. It's a minimum spend of $10 and they get the chance to socialise with people.”
Lesley Eerger said the races were a family day, an event for all ages and all categories of class.
The next race meet is the fiftieth anniversary of the Race Club.
"It's a huge deal and the preparation has already begun. We're having luncheon for the original committee from that very first day and meeting....if not them then their descendants,” Noel Trace said.
The theme for the Easter Saturday fiftieth anniversary race meet is pink vintage glamour and bonnets.
"We and the other volunteers go to a huge effort.....so it's really rewarding when everyone turns up and dresses in theme. Especially with the miserable weather we've had,” Lesley Eerger said.
"We really thank the crowd and community for that.”
