A teenager caused more than $3800 worth of havoc at a North Burnett peanut company where he kicked a door in and set off several fire extinguishers.

Robert James Bosel-Murray, 19, pleaded guilty at Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday to entering a premises with intent and wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said Bosel-Murray entered the yard of the Peanut Company Australia factory on Juliet Street, Gayndah on April 26, 2023 by climbing over a mesh fence.

“He approached the engineering sheds, removed the glass windows and smashed them on the ground and another door was kicked open.”

Bosel-Murray’s fingerprints were found on the glass by police, the court was told.

“The business is seeking restitution for the damage,” Sergeant Stevens said.

“Business is hard enough without this nonsensical damage to property.”

Defence lawyer Sjaana Stephens said Bosel-Murray recently relocated from Gayndah to Wondai to stay out of trouble.

“He is currently looking for catering work and has been off alcohol since his last charge,” Ms Stephens said.

The court heard Bosel-Murray voluntarily attended the police station.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair took into account Bosel-Murray’s limited criminal and early guilty plea.

“Probation is a good idea because it’ll help you stay out of trouble as you’re still a young man,” Mr Sinclair said.

Bosel-Murray was sentenced to 12 months’ probation with the condition to take part in counselling.

He was ordered to pay full compensation to the peanut company for the damage.

Convictions were recorded.
