Murgon Court: Raisharn Jane Reynolds sentenced for spitting at police officer, drug offences

A teenager who attempted to light up a homemade drug utensil in front of police was arrested after tipping her bong water on police and spitting at an officer.

A South Burnett teenager who attempted to light up a homemade “bucket bong” in front of police was arrested when an attempt to take her drugs away turned ugly.

Raisharn Jane Reynolds became hostile toward police when they showed up to a Cherbourg property on a warrant looking for her brother, police prosecutor Barry Stevens told Murgon Magistrates Court.

The 18-year-old began to swear at officers as they searched her room, yelling “f--k off motherf---er before pulling out a cone piece.

“She was attempting to load a small amount of leafy material into a cone piece and started putting it into a bucket bong,” Sergeant Stevens said.

“Police told her to stop and went to seize the bucket bong.”

Reynolds poured the bong water onto the investigators before spitting at an officer as he attempted to arrest her, with spittle landing on his shoulder.

Police returned to the same property about a week later looking for another wanted person, this time finding a gram of marijuana and a bong made from a baby’s bottle that belonged to Reynolds.

Lawyer Mark Oliver said his client smoked marijuana every day to self-medicate for anxiety and depression, and intended to go on the medical marijuana program.

“She obviously has little insight because she was trying to pack a cone for the bong in front of the police while her brother was being arrested,” Mr Oliver said.

“That could be attributed to her young age.”

Reynolds pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting police, possessing dangerous drugs, and two counts of possessing drug utensils.

She was placed on 12 months’ probation and a $350 good behaviour bond for six months.

No conviction was recorded.
