Mundubbera man, 24, charged with assault after shoving 11-year-old girl after footy loss

A Queensland man has been charged with the assault of an 11-year-old girl in the crowd at a footy finals match, allegedly causing her multiple injuries including concussion, after he ran onto the field to abuse the referee.

A 24-year-old man allegedly assaulted a little girl just moments after he abused a referee following the football finals in Mundubbera on Saturday.

Police say the Mundubbera man ran onto the field and began arguing with the referee, knocking a water bottle out of his hand before running away through the crowd.

A security guard attempted to stop the 24-year-old but he was shouldered onto concrete steps, Gayndah officer-in-charge Don Auld said.

The man ran past the clubhouse and allegedly barged over an 11-year-old girl, who police say fell back and hit her head on the concrete.

The little girl reportedly suffered a concussion, whiplash and bruising to the back of her head.

Police tackled the alleged offender to the ground and arrested him.

The man is due to appear in Gayndah Magistrates Court on October 1 charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was also fined $826 for obstructing police and public nuisance.
