Multiple members of South Burnett family in court on the same day

A 20-year-old man has been warned he could go to jail on serious drug charges just moments after both his parents pleaded guilty to shoplifting.

Chrissy Mae Isaacs, Aaron John Jenkins and Cody Aaron Jenkins all faced Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Friday January 31, 2025.

A mother, father and son of the same South Burnett family faced Kingaroy Magistrates Court on a variety of charges on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Chrissy Mae Isaacs, 42, was charged with shoplifting, and her partner Aaron John Jenkins, 44, was charged with stealing, shoplifting and committing a public nuisance.

Their 20-year-old son, Cody Aaron Jenkins, was charged with stealing electric scooters, committing public nuisance, wilful damage to a public phone box, possessing utensils or pipes that had been used, and possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1, quantity exceeding Schedule 3 but less than Schedule 4.

Cody Jenkins was unrepresented and asked for an adjournment to get legal aid, but Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said there would be no more adjournments as he had 168 days to prepare for the hearing.

“You are charged with an offence that, I think, carries life imprisonment and it will go to the higher court, with or without a lawyer. You can’t delay it simply by doing nothing,” Mr Sinclair said.

Cody Jenkins pleaded guilty to three counts of stealing, two counts of committing public nuisance, and one count of wilful damage.

He is due to face court again in April for a committal hearing on the drug charges, to determine whether there is enough police evidence to take the matter to District Court.

Mr Sinclair told the court he would not sentence Mr Jenkins until his committal hearing to allow him time to get legal aid, as the stealing charges had a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

Mr Jenkins broke down in court when Mr Sinclair told him he could be locked up until his next hearing, as he had continued to commit offences while he was on bail.

Police prosecutor Lisa Manns told the court while Mr Jenkins was facing serious charges that carried serious penalties, he was “perhaps a little disadvantaged”.

Senior Sergeant Manns said she was trying to be fair to Mr Jenkins as he had a “very limited criminal history” and was unrepresented in court, but “there is not much the prosecution can say that can stop the defendant from reoffending”.

“That’s entirely in his hands, if he is granted further bail. He would have to know that this is the last chance,” she said.

Mr Sinclair said he took into consideration Mr Jenkins’ young age and his limited history, and granted bail with the condition that he must report to police every week.

Aaron Jenkins pleaded guilty to one count each of stealing, unauthorised dealing with shop goods and committing a public nuisance, and was given a 12 month suspended sentence of seven days in prison.

Chrissy Isaacs pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorised dealing with shop goods, and was fined $150.

Cody Jenkins will face Kingaroy Magistrates Court again on April 4, 2025, for sentencing and a committal hearing.
