After finding drugs scattered throughout his property, a Kingaroy man’s ‘bad mood’ took the situation from bad to worse when he obstructed police and threatened an officer.

A Kingaroy man’s “bad mood” landed him in hot water after he threatened an officer and refused to give his name, taking a drug bust at his property from bad to worse.

Matthew William David Lindsay pleaded guilty in the Kingaroy Magistrate Court to obstructing police, possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils, and possessing a .45 calibre ammunition round.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said police raided Lindsay’s Kingaroy home on June 4.

“He was asked for his name and to provide details. He was told by police if he didn’t give his correct name he’d be committing the offence of obstruction,” Sergeant Stevens said.

“He was warned several times. He said, ‘well take me then’.”

Eventually providing his first and last name to police, Lindsay proceeded to threaten an officer, saying, “wait till I find out where you live”.

When asked by the officer if this was a threat, the defendant responded, “no, that’s a promise”, the court was told.

A search of the property uncovered a glass water pipe, a piece of hose, a metal cone piece, two grinders and a pair of scissors.

A total of 56.9 grams of marijuana was seized.

Sergeant Stevens said the defendant has a six-page history, including a six-month jail sentence with immediate parole for supplying dangerous drugs.

Lindsay represented himself and told the court he was “in a real bad mood” when police woke him up.

“I’m diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar. All the cannabis located in my shed was for personal use and obviously the scales are to make sure I don‘t get ripped off by the person I’m buying it from,” he said.

Lindsay said he is an insomniac and uses marijuana to help him sleep.

Magistrate Mark Howden placed Lindsay on probation for 12 months.

“You need some assistance, it seems to me. Because if they come around and you’ve got cannabis there, you’re likely to go back to jail,” Mr Howden said.
