A Kingaroy man ran straight for the police station after allegedly setting a car on fire, in a bizarre turn of events that saw him taken into police custody.
At 11.15pm on Thursday night, the 20-year-old allegedly doused a car parked outside a Youngman Street address in petrol before setting it alight, Kingaroy acting officer-in-charge Brett Smith said.
The suspect ran away on foot as the owner of the vehicle discovered the blaze and extinguished it with a garden hose.
Police later found an empty jerry can nearby.
Sergeant Smith said the man ran to Kingaroy Police Station where he was charged with arson of a motor vehicle and taken into custody.
The 20-year-old is due to appear before Kingaroy Magistrates Court at a later date.
