Kingaroy dad sentenced after stealing dog, breaching court orders

A Kingaroy thief who breached a domestic violence order dozens of times and stole a dog has been punished for his latest round of offending.

A 41 year old Kingaroy man who breached a domestic violence, filed by his former partner, order 26 times and stole a dog, has been sentenced in Kingaroy.

A Kingaroy man has been jailed for breaching a domestic violence order dozens of times and stealing a bizarre swag of items from a store.

The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, breached the order 26 times.

Kingaroy Magistrates Court was told the thief attempted to steal a deodorant, chocolate bar and a phone charging battery pack from a local store.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens asked for the man to be put behind bars.

“On December 7, 2022 he stole a dog claiming the owner owed him $1000,” he said.

“Two years imprisonment is warranted due to the defendant’s extensive dishonest offending,” he said.

Sergeant Stevens said the man also approached his former partner to confirm the middle name of the daughter they shared in late-2022, despite the domestic violence order being in place.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair chastised the man’s decision to breach the order.

“There are other ways you could have obtained that information,” he said.

The unemployed man pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing, and one each of attempted stealing, disqualified driving and breaching a domestic violence order.

The man was sentenced to nine months jail and will be eligible to apply for parole on May 24.

He was disqualified from driving for five years, including his prior two-year ban.

Convictions were recorded.
